The Team

Sajia Uddin

Chief Editor

(2024,2025)

Welcome to The EarlyBard. My name is Sajia Uddin, one of the chief editors and founders of The EarlyBard and a sophomore. I am also the research editor and a weekly writer alongside Ariella Thompson, who has supported me since the beginning of this journey. I have been a part of The EarlyBard since I was in 9th grade. My inspiration has always been with me since 6th grade when I was a newbie writer for my middle school newspaper. I want to inform and bring my school community together and the newspaper has allowed me to do that. I love covering articles on healthcare, self-care, food, nutrition, and lifestyle because I want to see people improve and help them along the way. Outside of The EarlyBard, I read all kinds of books, paint, cook different cuisines(Bengali, Korean, and Thai..), and run in Pelham Bay Park. I want to keep journalism in my future journey even if it’s a small part. One thing I want to keep doing is making mistakes and learning because it’s endless and never ending.

Ariella Thompson

Chief Editor

(2024,2025)

My name is Ariella Thompson, one of the chief editors and founders of EarlyBard. I'm a tenth grader and I’ve been in the newspaper since ninth grade when Sajia Uddin and I started it in Dr.Scheer’s old classroom! I was inspired to create a school newspaper so the students of BHSEC could have a creative outlet to share their voices, opinions, and creativity. I believe Journalism is important because it informs, connects, and empowers people. A strong student paper not only keeps the school community up to date with important events but also encourages critical thinking and discussion! When I’m not editing articles and writing the weekly paper I love baking, thrifting, and doing theatre.

MD Shahriar Samin

Tech Manager

(2024,2025)

I'm MD Shahriar Samin, Tech Manager of the club. This is my first year in the club and I'm currently in 10th grade. I like the work that comes my way, especially the ones going until 12 am. And I like F1. I initially joined the newspaper on a whim, since a lot of my friends were in it, and soon I realized I liked the atmosphere and the work. The work was a bit challenging sometimes, especially since it was my first, but luckily things that were challenging seemed to inspire and motivate me; which made me like the club more. On the side, I really like playing video games with my cousins, watching anime, and playing Footballâš½(with the feet).

Nilav Alam

Tech Manager 2

(2024,2025)

Hey! I’m Nilav Alam, a student at BHSEC and manager of the tech team. My passion for technology and my future goal of becoming a software engineer inspired me to join the Newspaper Team. While some may find it boring, I see it as more than just a job, it’s a hobby I truly enjoy. Outside of tech, I love hanging out with friends and playing basketball/soccer, which is one of my favorite ways to have fun.

Liyana Hossain

Global Editor, Writer

(2024,2025)

Hi, my name’s Liyana and I’m the Global Editor and one of the many writers for the BHSEC Newspaper. In my free time, I enjoy writing poetry and philosophy. I am particularly fond of writing about global issues also since — it sheds light on surprisingly, often ignored and brushed under the rug topics. I adore the book The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini because it explores how to amend one's wrongdoings with not only others but yourself as a human. While also utilizing religion as a leeway to express these complex ideas. I feel as if writing is one of the only tools one can use to fully express their thoughts and opinions about certain issues in this day and age — given the restrictions that have been put upon us as a society.

Humaira Thanisa

Bronx Editor, Writer

(2024,2025)

Hey, my name is Humaira Thanisa and I am an editor for the Bronx local section in the Early Bard newspaper at BHSEC Bronx. I’ve been in The EarlyBard for about one and a half years now, since freshman year. I first got interested in The EarlyBard because of my passion for writing. I enjoy expressing my thoughts through writing, I find it calming and a way to connect with others. I also believe writing can be a big form of spreading awareness for causes that need recognition. A hobby I enjoy doing is painting. I find that expressing yourself through painting is very easy because no matter where you are in the world you can understand a picture since it has a language of its own. A goal I have for the long term with newspapers is to continue to spread awareness on causes that many people seem to turn a blind eye to. I would like to talk about topics some may consider taboo or shameful to talk about because everybody deserves to feel seen.

Julien Spencer

Entertainment Editor, Writer

(2024,2025)

My name is Julien, and I'm currently in 10th grade and the entertainment editor of The EarlyBard. I have the privilege of managing the entertainment section of our school newspaper, a role I’ve been in since it was made during my freshman year. I was motivated to join this club by my friend Ariella Thompson (one of the co-owners), and it has been a rewarding experience that has helped me develop my skills in teamwork and creativity. In addition to my work with the newspaper, I enjoy playing the guitar and playing many video games.

Kayden Martinez

Sports Editor, Writer

(2024,2025)

My name is Kayden Martinez. I am in 10th grade and I am the sports editor of the Early Bard. I have been a part of our newspaper for two years and the reason I joined is because we are a very young school and having a platform like this to voice our opinions and write about things we love is extremely vital in our community. I love writing about our New York sports teams (specifically the New York Knicks and the New York Yankees). My dream career is to become a sports journalist or sports analyst. I really enjoy being a part of this amazing team and can’t wait for what’s next!

Rosalie Guerrero

Designer, Writer

(2024,2025)

Hello, I’m Rosalie Guerrero! Every headline, story, and article is written with the dedication of passionate individuals. As part of the design team, every challenge is easier to face with collaboration and support. I joined the newspaper to try something new where I can inspire and influence others. Here, you are part of something bigger, a team that grows together throughout every story we tell.

Zariah Suares

Designer, Writer

(2024,2025)

Hi! I’m Zariah and I’m a part of the Design Team! I’m a sophomore and I’ve always been interested in designing stuff since I was a kid— from comic books to video games. I’m glad to be here and I hope you enjoy the Early Bard!

Neftun Choudhury

Social Media, Writer (2024)

Production Manager (2025)

Hello! My name is Neftun and I’m a writer and social media tech team member for the Early Bard Newspaper. I’m currently a 9th grader and I’ve been part of the Bhsec Bronx Newspaper around October of 2024. I’ve been asked multiple times before why I joined the newspaper club since I’ve always been interested in STEM-related things but to put it simply I’ve really just enjoyed the humanities. I thought, why not join our school's newspaper and be able to write and get creative with any surfacing topics? I’m honestly so glad I joined the newspaper club because it’s such a fun thing to be part of and it has also improved my writing skills. Some of my favorite topics to cover in the newspaper are any issues going on in the world. I enjoy writing about these topics as I myself love reviewing international news and stories or anything that I know is going to be huge and written down in history. As a matter of fact, one of my favorite book genres is historical fiction! I probably sound like a big nerd right now but who cares, historical fiction is amazing. If you feel like your brain is more than 75% water, I recommend reading a historical fiction book as it’ll boost your knowledge on some event from history you may have not been educated on and it’ll feel more interesting reading about since it’s a fiction story.

Ariel Blanks

Writer

(2024,2025)

Hi! My name is Ariel and my role in The Early Bard is as a writer! I am a junior and I have been part of the newspaper for several months now. I joined because I love to write and I have been interested in writing outside of school. In terms of the newspaper, I like to cover anything football-related and I write a bit about politics as well. A fun fact about me is that my favorite football team is the Buffalo Bills! My long-term goal for the newspaper is to get more people in BHSEC Bronx to read our newspaper.

Carlos Sterling

Writer

(2024,2025)

Hi, everyone, my name is Carlos Sterling. I'm a writer for the Early Bard, and I've been here for over a year now; I'm currently in the 10th grade. I love talking and writing about music, especially speaking as a longtime musician. I hope that I'm able to foster a bigger appreciation for music as an art in the school, in whatever ways I can.

Christabel Ashun

Writer

(2024,2025)

Hi! My name is Christabel Ashun, I am a writer for this newspaper. I joined at the start of my first year here at Bard as a 9th grader. Honestly, I'm a pretty basic person. My life might actually revolve around my copious usage of social media. That being said, I've always scrolled and wondered why and how people got their information and educated the masses about seemingly obscure issues. That curiosity is what drives me to write and share stories.
