The mermaid rushed through the rubble, the many trees that surrounded the enchanted forests as the cries and yelling of an angry mob echoed out behind her.

a bundle cradled in her arms, her lover followed not far behind. the elf could feel his vision blur, the thought of losing her bringing him to tears.

Reaching the ocean finally, the rain beaded down upon the cold sand. the mermaid looked down upon the small bundle in her arms, feeling her eyes water as she whispered a soft song to her little one. setting him down upon the sand, she ran toward the wave, clutching her wound as she felt her breath hitch at the sound of a familiar voice.

the prince called out to her, desperately begging her to stay. with one slow gaze, the mermaid looked back to him, whispering a final 'I love you.'

disappearing into the waves of the raging sea, sea foam slowly rose to the surface. The prince fell to knees, looking upon the small bundle, and seeing a small infant wrapped in cloth. a little boy who resembled his mother and yet so much of his father. the prince held the infant to his chest, murmuring one word, promising to protect the gift the mermaid had left him.

His world, his little boy, Orion.

Chapter 1

The elven prince and the princess of the ocean

Watching the sea, the waves hitting his feet as he sat at the shore, he let out a long exhale. So many duties, and responsibilities as the prince, every day more suffocating than the last. What a shame. from childhood, he was groomed to be the perfect ruler, no time to truly be a ... child. With no true childhood memories besides the harsh punishments from his mentors, and the striking of the stick against his legs as he attempted not to shed a single tear. He was meant to be fearless, a tyrant without emotion during his rule.

That changed years later. On that fateful day, he sat on the warm sand, the summer season exuding heat that caused sweat to drip down his porcelain skin.

he swam through the reefs, playing with the fish all around her, basking in the refreshing feeling of the water upon her skin. a soft breath of satisfaction left her mouth, and she floated along the surface, her scales, colored beautiful hues of red, orange, and pink, glimmering in the shining sun. A wonder of the earth, she lifted her head, noticing the man sitting by the shore. He was a new visitor, much more different compared to the men she had known her whole life. And where was his tail? So many questions, yet so little time. What a strange person. but it wouldn't hurt to go up to him, would it?

The little mermaid had no idea this encounter would change the course of her whole life. She would know forbidden love, and find new things beyond her belief with this prince.

Chapter 2

A First Meeting

The prince jumped back, his heart racing at the sudden sight of a woman in the water. By now she was in front of him, propping herself up upon her hands, curious eyes gazing into his. Her lips parted as she began to speak, her voice resembling a gentle, alluring melody.

"What is your name?"

A grin began to grow on her face, her eyes lighting up at the look on the prince's face. He opened his mouth to speak, his throat suddenly too dry to say a word, his tongue-tied. He stammered out a reply, managing to say a single word.

"P-Phillip. my.. My name is Phillip."

He felt his face begin to flush a bright red, almost embarrassed at his sudden shyness.  But who could blame him? She was a sight to behold, with eyes that were colored a bright blue, their beauty rivaling that of the stars.

"Phillip.. My name is Margaret." her tone was inquisitive like she was testing the sound of his name on her tongue.

Margaret. Even her name was beautiful. He'd never seen such a woman, such a woman so extraordinary, no other could compare.
